Care Home of the Month is a new achievement award scheme created by Musica to celebrate the excellent person-centered work that is happening day-in-and-day-out in the care sector.

Musica has a professional reputation across the South of England for delivering successful music interventions and is proud to be a corporate partner of the Alzheimer’s Society, and a National Dementia Action Alliance Member. As a CIC, we are best positioned to support our community and their needs are at the heart of everything we do.

Founded in 2010, It is safe to say we have spent a considerable number of hours working alongside care staff in an ever-changing, complex care environment. Over the years we have honed our skills in person-centered, responsive care, and now offer a unique adaptive approach to our services (meaningful music workshops, performances, choir programmes, and training opportunities), insightful to the needs of our audience.

Our Care Home of the Month award scheme allows us to champion all care homes that embrace this way of working, who create a harmonious, person and relationship-centered environment for their residents, families, carers, and staff, and truly believe in the wellbeing benefits of music, for those living with (and without) dementia.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are a care home, carer or a resident passionate about highlighting the achievements of your home, we hope the information below will answer the questions you may have.
How many awards do you give out per month?

Musica Music and Wellbeing CIC award a total of one award per month in each territory we operate in. At present, we currently work in the following areas: Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Bristol and Surrounds, West Sussex and Hampshire.

Which care homes typically win the achievement award?

We know there are many care homes who deserve recognition. These awards are for those care homes who in our eyes have gone above and beyond when it comes to raising the standard of person-centered care, and embedding music within their care, particularly whilst supporting those living with dementia. Nominated by our Musica Coordinators we are typically looking for homes that;

  • Value the importance of music within dementia care
  • Celebrate the individuality of people living with dementia
  • Actively engage in Musica’s services
  • Encourage residents’ families and carers to engage in Musica’s services
  • Encourage other members of staff to engage with music both during and outside of our sessions.

Our Home-from-Home Stories showcase inspiring care homes who have won Care Home of the Month awards.

How do you choose a Care Home of the Month winner?

Care homes are nominated on a monthly basis by our Musica Coordinators and then judged by the Musica Head Office team. The team evaluate individual strengths accordingly to the five criteria points mentioned above and choose one care home to win the award in each territory per month.

Can a Care Home win more than one award a year?

In a word, yes. Although we encourage our Musica Coordinators to nominate as many care homes as they wish, if your care home is performing better than others, it will be consistently rewarded.
What does each award winner receive?

At Musica we believe it is important to celebrate achievements amongst the care sector and to promote the positive things you do. This is why we encourage as much celebration as possible. Care Homes of the Month winners will receive the following:

  • A framed certificate
  • A half-price Musica workshop with your local Musica Coordinator
  • Promotional material including a press release sent to local press contacts, a mention on our website and a big shout out via our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages.

We take the opportunity to celebrate you as many times as possible. Firstly, when we make the initial announcement and secondly when you are presented with your framed certificate. We also encourage winners to share the good news themselves, so each Care Home will receive a social media winner pack to get them started.

What is the role of a Musica Coordinator?

The coordinator is responsible for the running of Musica Music and Wellbeing CIC in their territory (typically counties). This includes facilitating Musica services in care homes and hospitals, as well as managing freelance musicians in the area.
