• The care homes sector is worth around £15.9 billion a year in the UK, with around 410,000 residents.
• Gov.UK have calculated that there are around 5,500 different providers in the UK operating 11,300 care homes for the elderly.
• As the population continues to age, demand for care will increase and the types of care needed will change.
• The Office for National Statistics predicts a 36% growth in persons aged 85+ between 2015 and 2025, from 1.5 million to 2 million.
• There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. This is predicted to soar to 2 million by 2051. 225,000 will develop dementia this year, that’s one every three minutes, and one in six people over the age of 80 have dementia with 70% of people in care homes having dementia or severe memory problems.
• There will be a substantial increase in demand for care home services.
